Botox is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily "freezing" the muscles. It is administered via injection, which has been FDA approved for cosmetic use. It is injected into the muscles that cause the appearance of lines and wrinkles upon movement. It acts as a wall between the brain and muscle. The brain sends chemicals or signals to the muscle to move but instead hits the botox rather than the muscle, resulting in no movement. Botox is a gradual effect and results usually appear within 2-3 days, but full effect will be by 2 weeks. This treatment is contraindicated for clients who have a preexisting neuromuscular disease, pregnant or breastfeeding or have had an allergic reaction to botulinum toxin in the past. Please avoid treatment for at least 4 weeks after receiving the covid-19 vaccinations.
